According to Dr. Conchita Umali, dean of the Assumption Grade School and a practicing psychology, distrust is an issue for jealousy. If a partner has previously engaged in something which has caused the other to lose trust, then that maybe a possible ground for jealousy and doubtfulness. On the other hand, jealousy may also mean that a person is afraid of losing someone of great importance to him. As pointed out by Jireh Singson, a Music Production student from the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde and my close acquiantance, although jealousy is healthy in a relationship, jealousy cannot be deemed as a form of expression of love. That is due to one’s greediness – thinking of one’s benefit since that person does not want to lose that someone because he derives something from him or her. Instead of thinking what is good for both of you, you only think about what is good for yourself and how you can benefit more from the other. Without him or her, the other does not feel as good with himself as when he was when he still had her. Therefore, to sum it all, jealousy cannot be considered as a form of expressing love because all in all, jealousy reflects a person’s insecurity toward someone who he might think is better.

My Papas Waltz Essays My Papas Waltz Paper My Papas Waltz Paper There are many excellent poets. One of which is Theodore Roethke, who has written many pieces that leave the writer confused about what he may really want to convey through his pieces. His mother sent him to Arthur Hill School because she was opposed to sending him to Saginaw High. At Arthur Hill School, Roethke learned his writing skills. As a freshman, he wrote a speech about the Red Cross. This speech received worldwide recognition and was written in twenty-six languages. Roethke had somewhat or a rough life during High school. During his junior year of High school, his uncle committed suicide in February and his father died two months when he was fourteen. Roethke was an accomplished writer early in school, but at the same time his success was tarnished by the difficult life he endured through High School. Roethkes troubled adolescence may be a reason why it is hard to know exactly what he is means through out his poems. After High school, Roethke attended University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. While at College, he joined the Chi Phi fraternity, played tennis, and worked. When he graduated, he went to Law School for a short period of time before dropping out to pursue a degree in Literature at Harvard University. Roethke was forced to withdraw from school due to his depression. After leaving school, he started writing many of his wonderful pieces and had several jobs along the way. One of his most famous works is The Waking, Poems written and published in 1954. For this wonderful piece Roethke received the Pulitzer Prize, the most prestiges award a writer can receive. In 1942, Roethke, wrote My Papas Waltz. Many of Roethkes pieces leave the reader wondering about what happened during the poem. In My Papas Waltz, he continues this legacy of leaving the reader wondering when reading his poems. At he age of 37, after writing many outstanding pieces, Roethke wrote My Papas Waltz. In My Papas Waltz, Roethke leaves the audience wondering about what he really wants to convey through his work. In My Papas Waltz, Roethke the reader is confused about what Roethke is trying to convey to the reader. When first reading the poem, you may think that the father is abusing his son but in reality the father and son may have a wonderful relationship. Roethke may have written this poem in reponse to the depression he suffered as a child and as well when his father, uncle, and mother dying. The speaker in the poem leads the reader to believe his father is abusing him. While in reality, if you look into the poem deeper you can tell that maybe the father and son are having fun together. Roethke uses sarcasm in his peom about his fathers attitude towards his son (Ashley). In lines five and six he wrote, We romped until the pans slid from the kitchen shelf. (Ashley) If you look at what happened closely the father and son were actually fighting until the walls shook and everything fell. The father obviously drinks often and turns violent. It is also clear that happened what happened before, like he is used to being abused, because the speaker talks as if it wasnt a big deal. (Jane) The speaker may act as if it is no big deal when it really is not a big deal at all, but wants the audience to think so. The rhyming cadence of Roethkes My Papas Waltz follows the order of steps of the dance alluded to the poems title. The structure of the poem follows the rough pace of the Waltz and the conflict between the father, mother, and son that the waltz displays in the poem. The speakers recollection of what has happened generates several narratives that show the vision home and what goes on there. As you read the poem, the speakers displays different signs of abuse and terror that goes on in the house through the first two stanzas. The first stanza of the poem seems to convey the terror and abuse the child encounters from his father. The little boy, the speaker, starts off with a somewhat of a frightening tone in his voice. (Jane)As an audience, we may think that this means the father is abusive while in fact he might just have had one shot of liquor after a hard day at work. Another point made in the first stanza is the whiskey could make a young boy dizzy. If one exams hard and looks for possible explanations, one should know that any amount of whiskey smelt by a young child would make him dizzy. When reading this poem one may think that Roethke meant this to be is an abusive situation, where in fact this may be a normal night for the family. The waltzing among them the son and father turns into a more rough like manner as the two continue. In the second stanza, the waltzing becomes rougher and conveys to the reader that this may be an abusive situation. We romped until the pan slid from the kitchen shelf. After reading this line, an audience would immediately presume that the father is abusive to his son. This may be abusive but may also be the two having a great time together. One can have a fun time, but at the same time be rough while doing so. I feel that one should have an open mind about what may be really going on during the poem. In the last tw o lines of this stanza, it says, My mothers countenance Could not unfrown itself. When one first reads these lines, one would think she is scared and doesnt know what to do about the situation with the son and father. The mother in fact may not be able to believe the two can play this long and rough together. I know when I grew up that my mother had a face that way many of times after watching my dad and I having fun together. Roethke leaves the audience here wondering whether she is scared about her husbands abuse or whether she cant believe they are causing this much mayhem having fun together. Once you look at this closely, the father and son are just having a great time together due to the fact that the son doesnt get to see his father much. As I said before, it looks like the father is a drunk and abusive when in fact he has a shot of whiskey every night he comes in. In the third stanza, Roethke leaves the audience thinking that the son and father are having fun together opposed to the abuse that some think is happening. A battered knuckle, an ear scraping a buckle, those may seem like descriptions of beatings with a belt. That stanza alone can spell out negativity (Jane). However, I do not see how this stanza can mean that the poem is completely negative. When the two are waltzing, I do not feel that there is any abusive going on here. They are just so close together dancing that it sounds worse than it may be when you read this line. If you are dancing this close and as rough as these two were, anyone could get a battered knuckle. After waltzing much of the night, the father puts the son to bed. When putting the son to bed, it is clear to me that the two have a strong relationship together. In the final part of the poem, Roethke displays a kind-hearted father. After waltzing much of the night, the father puts the son to sleep. Then waltzed me off to bed Still clinging to your shirt. The boy didnt want to go because maybe he doesnt get to see his father very often and he clings to his shirt because it just may be one of the most satisfying things that he has done with his father and he doesnt want to lose the joy in it (Jane). During the poem, Roethke left his audience wondering about what view to take on his piece. Until the last sta nza, I could not completely tell if this was an abusive situation or an enjoyable situation. I now am confident that these two had a wonderful relationship. If this was not a good relationship, I do not think the son would have wanted his father to stay or would have been holding so hard to his father. Roethkes My Papas Waltz is a poem that leaves an audience wondering to what side it should take. Many of the pieces Roethke wrote over his career did that it as well. He leaves the reader scratching its head to what went on in this piece. Maybe this is his way of making his reader think about things that may happen in real life. Everyday we view something a certain way when in fact we were wrong because we didnt look at all details involved.

It is first important to understand how banks operate; banks lend out money to open public, this money when lend out in the economy is bound to come back to the banks as deposits by other people. Thus, the bank has more and more money to lend out. However, the bank keeps certain amount of money as a safety measure to cater to demand of withdrawal of money by customers. The percentage of deposit kept safe by the bank is determined by the â€Å"Liquidity Ratio†. Example, if the liquidity ratio is 10%, and Mr. X comes and invests $100 in a bank, the bank would keep $10 as a reserve and would lend out the remaining $90 to customers. This increases money supply; the more money that flows in the bank, the more cred it creation takes place. Open Market operations refer to buying and selling of bonds that happens between the Central bank and the commercial banks. Commercial banks are very powerful when it comes to money creation or contractions. Thus, in case the government wants an expansionary monetary policy, the Central bank would ask the commercial banks to print fancy stamped papers with net amounts written (known as BONDS) and sell them to Central Bank. The central bank would buy the bond and pay the commercial bank money for the bond. Thus, this money is used by the commercial banks to make more credit as they give out this money to buyers. These people spend, Example, Mr. X borrowed $90 and bought a Dell Computer, now Dell would deposit the $90 back in the bank and thus the bank would make a further loan of $81 (90% of $90) and this cycle goes on. This leads to money being multiplied and as a result, because of the Money Multiplier effect, $100 becomes approximately $1000 in the economy at a 10% liquidity ratio rate. This is an expansionary monetary policy that is used in times of recession to bring the economy back or close to the full employment level of output. Money Multiplier = 1 / Liquidity Ratio Similarly, if the government wishes to contract the money supply, it does the opposite; the central bank prints and sells bonds to the commercial banks (taking out its reserves) thus the commercial banks have lesser funds to give out as loans in the economy and the overall economy contracts. This contracts the money supply and is used in times of inflation. This concept also has another vital aspect to it, the impact of interest rates as a result of money supply. Money supply is directly linked to the interest rates, as shown below: Increases in money supply (via expansionary monetary policy) decreases interest rates (as shown above, from i1 to i2), this means people would be less willing to save and hence have a greater marginal propensity to consume*. Consumption will likely to go up as people would tend to spend more than they save, owing to low interest rates. Sixty years ago the television was invented. People looked at it as a technological curiosity (I got that part from the info). For some people now days TV is there best friend. Most of them are little kids. TV shows the news, tries to make us buy certain things, and it also shows violence. The only thing that it can do is replace written materials (Got that to). The bad thing is that these violent shows are dangering our society. Certain things on TV and movies have inspired people (I could think of any other word to use so I used theirs) to set their wives on fire, lie down in the middle of the roads, rape, steal, murder, and to do shootings. Out of 1,000 studies it is proven that media violence can have a negative affect on adults and even children. When people watch these shows it makes them more ag gressive and anti-social. After a few days of watching these shows people become less sensitive to violence and to victims of violence. After that happens they begin to have a hunger for more violence in entertainment and in real life. Media violence is especially damaging to young children between ages 8 and under. The reason for that is because they cannot tell the difference between the real life and their dreams. In the photo â€Å"Lynching 1930† there is a crowd of people gathered around a tree, two African-American men are hanging from that tree, they are both dead. Lynching of African-Americans began to spread after the American Civil War and it was most popular in the South. Lynching African-Americans was used as a punishment usually carried out by a mob of white people to intimidate African-Americans, â€Å"black† people suffered from violence of white people for many years they had no freedom and no citizen rights; they were considered as slaves.Between 1860 and 1890 almost 5,000 African-Americans were lynched in front of large crowds of white people. When I first saw the photo, I focused on the two men hanging from a tree, the reason I first saw this is because they are both in the middle of the picture and everything else in the picture is directing towards these men. The other people in the picture are smiling and they all look happy and relaxed at the sight of two dead men. I was shocked when I saw the photo, what happened to these men including many others like them is unfair, cruel and immoral.The photo shocked me and I also felt disgusted by the cruelty and cold-heartedness of people looking at corpses while looking like they are about to have a celebration. In the crowd the people who are standing nearest to the photographer are all looking at the camera, one man is pointing at the corpses with a proud look on his face as if he just accomplished doing something important. Near this man, there is a young couple holding hands both smiling as if it were the happiest moment of their lives. Two other men seem careless at the horrible sight and are smoking cigars.People of all ages are gathered around the big tree, there is even a little girl who looks like she is 10 years old who is smiling. I feel horrified looking at all these smiling faces that have all seen the same thing and are joyful about it; murder. No one in the picture looks sad or disg usted after seeing two men who have just been murdered, it is worrying to see how proud and happy people are to be taken in a picture in front of dead people. Not one person in the photo looks shocked, not the men, not the women and not even the little girl. There are people of all different ages in the photo, but the all have he same reaction to racism. Men are wearing suits or dress shirts with ties, some of them are wearing hats while the women are all wearing dresses and have short hair. People in the crowd look like they are mixed between the middle class and rich people, the person who stands out the most in the photo is a man who looks like he is in his 50’s, he is wearing a white dress shirt and dark trousers, he has a thin mustache on his upper lip and he is pointing at the man hanging on the right side of the tree with a look of accomplishment on his face.An old woman is standing beside him, she seems distracted by someone else and her eyes are looking in the direct ion of a young man who is at the right side of the photo only half his face is showing in the picture, the other half is cut out. I think this photograph was taken on a summer night because people are wearing light clothes. Women are wearing dresses with prints on them and most men are only wearing shirts without jackets.The dark sky is visible behind the tree; there are also two streetlights that appear in the picture behind the dead men. Focusing on the two dead men, they both look poor because their clothes are ripped and do not look as expensive as the clothes of the people in the crowd. The man on the left has his head looking down; he is wearing an unbuttoned shirt and trousers. I can see stains on his shirt and trousers, they looks like blood. I think the man was tortured in before being hung to the tree.The man on the right has his head tilted to the side he is wearing a shirt but instead of trousers there is a piece of cloth wrapped around his waist, the hemline is uneven a nd he is barefoot. He also has bloodstains on his clothes. I think this photograph is one of the most famous ones because it isn’t only a picture of the dead men but you can also see the crowd’s reactions to this scene. You can see how intolerant people were and not accepting people for their skin color.I think that people’s view and feelings from this photo has changed over the years, in the 1930 this photo would be pleasant for white people to look at and it would evoke a feeling of happiness and pride when seeing the huge crowd gathered around the tree but nowadays this photo would shock anyone even white people. People’s acceptance of different races and skin colors has evolved during the years, if this happened today it would not be acceptable like it would have been at the time the photo was taken. I am glad I do not have to see this sight nowadays because I think it is unfair to judge a person by their looks, skin color or race.

CAFO is known for specializing in the raising of domestic pigs to be slaughtered when they have reached the proper weight. This system of pig production, grower pigs are housed indoors in group-housing or sheds. Pregnant pigs are housed sow stalls or pens and give birth in these crates. A gestation crate is only 7 feet by 2 feet; it is enclosed so the pigs aren’t able to move around freely. Animal welfare supporters see the use of gestation crates as one of the most inhumane features of animal production. More than ninety percent of pigs in the U. S. today are raised on factory farms. These pigs spend their entire lives in cramped, filthy warehouses under the constant stress of intense confinement. Their natural ways are denied through this system that supposedly produces more in the cost of the happiness and welfare of an animal. When the time comes for slaughter, pigs are forced onto transport trucks that travel for many miles through all weather extremes. Many die of heat exhaustion in the summer or arrive frozen to the inside of the truck in the winter. According to industry reports, more than 1 million pigs die in transport each year, and an additional 420,000 are crippled by the time they arrive at the slaughterhouse. Over the next 25 years rosewood purchased several high-end hotels, operating them under various names, each with their own prestigious reputation. The Rosewood corporate name historically has always been kept in the background, remaining unknown except to travel agents and other hotels and related travel organizations, (Dev amp; Strook, 2007). â€Å"Competition in the luxury hotel segment is intense and it was becoming difficult to position Rosewoods collection of properties in an increasingly crowded field of luxury operators,† (Dev amp; Strook, 2007). In recent years rosewood and its management team headed by Robert Boulogne has been strongly considering establishing Rosewood as the corporate brand, similar to the Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton brands. Rosewood has also looked at the idea of the frequent stay program among all the hotels in the Rosewood chain. However, the idea of frequent stay program would likely not benefit Rosewood. It would actually cheapen the brand. Being a luxury hotel, Rosewoods customers are likely to be less interested in a discount program then and just knowing where other luxury hotels are. However its possible that when going to another vacation destination their guests may not realize that one of the hotels in that area are also owned by Rosewood. Was Daniel OConnell a Great Irish National Leader Essay The rebellion of 1798 and the Act of Union in 1800 had dashed the hopes of the Catholic leaders on the Irish Question, the Catholics were in a state of vassalage and they were still pariahs compared with the Protestants. Many of the leaders had accomplished very little and their prospects of success looked very bleak, they were even willing to support a compromise Emancipation Bill which, even though granted political and civil rights to the Catholics, included a veto which allowed the British government the right to vet ecclesiastical appointments to the Roman Catholic Church in order to ensure that only loyal clerics were appointed. But Daniel OConnell, an unknown Catholic lawyer, denounced the bill and inaugurated a different policy that soon gave the Catholic movement an energy it had not possessed before. With the failure of the 1821 Catholic Emancipation Bill (which included the above veto) to pass through the House of Lords, OConnell and his supporters set up the Catholic Association in 1823 as a pressure group campaigning for full civil and political rights for the Catholics. But it was in 1824 where OConnell introduced Catholic Rent of a penny a month that was collected by priests from the supporters and enabled the small pressure group to transform into a national mass movement with huge support from the Irish peasantry. The Catholic Association was able to represent the popular voice of Ireland due to its cheap subscription of a penny a month which many people could afford as 80% were living in dire poverty, other associations were not so successful as they were only made up of the small Irish middle class. OConnell also realised the important role of the priests who not only collected the rent but also influenced the people to join the Association. One of the Associations most effective methods of generating awareness was by holding massive open-air meetings that OConnell addressed himself. OConnell, using his skill as a lawyer, was an excellent orator and was known to the peasantry as the Deliverer as he demanded justice for Ireland and full Catholic Emancipation. OConnell was very successful with the Catholic Association as he was able to successfully mobilise the masses and use the open-air meetings to veil his threats to the British government. He threatened the British with mass disobedience, possible violence and eventual separation if their demands were not met. This was a policy of brinkmanship which OConnell used successfully to exploit his mass following. In 1828 brinkmanship was used in the County Clare Elections where OConnell decided to stand as candidate, with the backing of the Association and local priests, the Catholic voters defied their Protestant landlords and OConnell won the seat with ease. This posed a huge problem for the government as OConnell would not have been able to take a seat in the commons without a change of law, so effectively he forced Catholic Emancipation on Peel. Peel backed down after realising the threat of civil disorder and pushed emancipation through the House of Lords, the Lords passed the Catholic Emancipation bill by a two to one majority and it became an act in 1829. The Act allowed full civil and political rights to Roman Catholics and was OConnells greatest achievement as this was what the Association had set out to achieve. He claimed to a friend one of the greatest triumphs recorded in history- a bloodless revolution. In 1840 OConnell began the Repeal Campaign which was very similar to the Catholic Association and employed similar methods such as the Repeal Rent. But unlike the Association it collapsed as OConnell himself was not too committed with the Campaign and also the Catholic middle classes were more concerned about economic gains from the Union. OConnell again used his policy of brinkmanship but this time it was not successful, in 1843 the monster meeting in Clontarf was banned by Peel and Peel threaten military action by sending a small army and a naval ship. In this confrontation we see the limitations of mass mobilisation and brinkmanship as OConnell is forced to back down, as he is not prepared to back up his rhetoric with violence. So the Repeal Campaign was a failure for OConnell. The Catholic Emancipation Act of 1829 had an important impact on Westminster as it led to the split of the Tory Party with the emergence of the new Whig Party, and also allowed 33 OConnellites to take seats in the House of Commons. The Irish Party looked set to continue increasing its size with the passing of the Great Reform Act in 1832 which increased the franchise, but in fact only an extra 9 OConnellites were elected. The main reason for this was because the franchise was increased from 40 shillings freehold to a  £10 householder suffrage which dramatically reduced the Irish electorate to a sixth of its former size. Nevertheless the Irish Party still had an impact on the House of Commons where they put the Irish Question on the agenda and raised awareness in Britain, but they were also an important third party as it was their support which allowed the Whigs to get the Great Reform Bill through Westminster. This was the beginning of the Whig-Irish alliance. In 1813 OConnell said: I have an ultimate object, it is the Repeal of the Union and this was clearly what OConnell wanted to achieve through Parliament but this was not popular outside of Ireland. Therefore OConnell turned his attention to reforms for Ireland and the Whigs did address some of the Irish grievances by introducing a grant for education in 1831 and by passing the Irish Church Bill they reformed the unrepresentative Church of Ireland. OConnell saw, with the massive defeat of the Repeal Bill in 1834, that Irish reforms was all he could achieve even though his partys support was crucial, after 1834, for the Whigs to stay in power. There were major political differences between Peel and OConnell and Peel personally hated OConnell so the Irish Party were unable to cooperate with the new government. This shows that OConnell only made an impact during hung parliament where his partys support was the deciding factor. Though OConnell did achieve some reforms, these included the Irish Poor Law Act which set up workhouses in 1838 and he used his political leverage to persuade Thomas Drummond to reform the police and the judiciary in Ireland. Even though Daniel OConnell failed to achieve the Repeal of the Union he was still a great leader, he had built a rapport with the masses and began the first effective pressure group by forming the Catholic Association. But instead of becoming a great Irish national leader, he became a great Irish national Catholic leader as he rather divided the two religious communities with methods such as the Catholic Association. OConnell achieved a lot for Ireland, making an impact on the parliamentary scene and helped to bring about some legislative reforms, though his greatest accomplishment was the Catholic Emancipation Act.
